Park Sung-hwan



Park Sung-hwan (Hangul: 박성환; Hanja: 朴成煥; born September 4, 1984 in Jeju-do) is a male badminton player from South Korea. Park is the top ranked men's singles player in Korea and has also enjoyed success at international level, winning individual medals at both the 2010 World Championships and 2010 Asian Games.


Park competed at the 2007 BWF World Championships in men's singles, and was defeated in the third round by Chen Yu, of China, 15-21, 21-16, 21-15.


Park is quite weak in many tournament include the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing. He always lost in the first round and second round. The players that he lost to was Taufik Hidayat, Lee Hyun-il, Japanese Sho Sasaki, Malaysian Lee Chong Wei and the world number one player Lin Dan of China. Park is only fared the title of the Badminton Asia Championships and the Korea International Challenge, beating China's Chen Jin 21-18 21-18 and South Korean Lee Cheol Ho a very good result 21-14 21-13 in the final match.


Park entered the Proton Malaysian Open which is held in January. In the final he playedt the world number one Lee Chong Wei and lost 14-21 13-21. A week later, Park joined the Korea Open Super Series which is held in his home country. He was again stopped by the 1st seed Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia with rubber games 21-18 7-21 16-21 in the quarters-final match. Later in March, he skipped the All England Open Super Series and the Wilson Swiss Open Super Series. Until May, he is coming back to challenge in the Li Ning Sudirman Cup which is held in China. Sudirman Cup was the team competition and Korean team had successfully clashed into the final against Chinese team. Park Sung-hwan went down 14-21 18-21 to the Olympic champion Lin Dan in the final and lost 1 point for his team. Later, Park can only win the silver medals because the Korean team all together are losing 0-3 to China. A month later, Park participated in the Aviva Singapore Open Super Series. 


He is clashed into the semi-finals in Singapore. He lost to the Thailand's ace Boonsak Ponsana with rubber games 19-21 21-18 13-21 in the last four tournament.


A week later, Park joined the Djarum Indonesia Open Super Series and lost to the world number one Lee Chong Wei 9-21 13-21 in the quarters-final match. After two months, Park went to challenge the Chinese Taipei Grand Prix Gold Open which is held in the last week of August. In Taipei Open, Park is beaten by Muhammad Hafiz Hashim from Malaysia 15-21 18-21 in the quarster-final again.


Two weeks later, Park entered the Li Ning China Masters Super Series in Changzhou and the Japan Open Super Series. He was knocked out in the quarters-final match also, losing the 4th seed badminton ace Lin Dan of China in rubber games 15-21 21-13 21-23 in China and in Japan, he went down 21-12 26-28 15-21 after playing against Indonesian legend Taufik Hidayat.


Later in November, Park participated in the Yonex Sunrise Hong Kong Open. He went down 15-21 16-21 against Hong Kong player Chan Yan Kit in the second round and have nobond to play in the last eight tournament. 
A week later, Park registered in the China Open Super Series which is held in Shanghai. He was clashed into the semi-final in the China Open. In the last four tournament, he lost to the 2009 World Badminton Championships champion Lin Dan, he went down 10-21 11-21 against Lin.
